10 Tips to Overcoming your Addiction by Masai, the Centaurion War Lord (and former addict) of the Relica Enchanted Novella Series

 1. Seek Help.
If you need to check into a rehab, then that’s what you have to do, to get clean and sober.

2. Take it one day at a time.
Addiction is a disease that doesn’t go away, it’s something you have to work at each and everyday by making conscious decisions not to backtrack.

3. Find an addiction greater than yourself that is beneficial for you and others, that you are passionate about.
For me that was war, being a Centaur, it’s what I lived and breathed for, all I knew how to do, it was what ultimately saved me, for without it, I slipped into an endless barrel of ale.

4. Make a commitment to yourself, first and foremost, to be your stronger, healthier, sober self.
You can’t make that promise to anyone else, it’s all about you. Before you can make a commitment to anyone else you must be right with yourself, in every facet -mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually.

5. Remember YANA -You are not alone.
You may not feel like you have a strong support system, when loved ones and friends, you repeatedly let down prior, have finally thrown in the towel and have given up on you, but whether it is a counselor, rehab specialist or doctor, -they want to help, no matter how many times you fall off the bandwagon. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.

6. Give yourself a year or more before you commit to a relationship, so not to relapse.
We all know relationships, though blissful, can come with a great deal of stress too. Give yourself enough time and space to be whole enough to be able to commit to a relationship, whole heartedly.

7. Remember HALT – Hunger, Anger, Loneliness, Tiredness
It’s about recognizing your triggers, to prevent them and being aware of your feelings and the role they play in your addiction on the road to recovery.

8. Remember DEADS – Delay, Escape, Accept, Dispute, Substitute
This is a great acronym to remember to help with coping mechanisms to addiction.

9. Change your network.
Stay away from those who you know will take you back down the road to addiction, who haven’t stopped using and abusing drugs. This may mean you need to acquire a whole new set of friends and acquaintances.

10. Surrender to the warrior within you.
Reclaim your name and your very purpose in this world, for you only have one life to live and there’s no magic pill or elixir worth the exchange.
