What sets your books apart from all others?
My books are set apart from others because of my individual writing style. I haven’t been afraid of writing in different genres or experimenting with the use of pen names (K.C. Nightfall, Therapeutic Poet, Kela Calvin). My work is important because regardless of its subject matter or genre, I tend to write stories that will allow the reader to take away something positive as well as wanting more. Many of my readers will inquire, “Will there be a part two?”
Who is your target market?
My target market would be a relatable audience who has been through trying times, but can see the goodness through any situation, readers who are positive and readers who are just in search of great reading material.
What advice do you have to offer in support of other authors?
Advice that I have for other authors is to be unique in your writing craft. Someone out there will find your stories relatable, even intriguing. Also to learn as much as they can about the writing business, such as determining whether traditional or self-publishing works better for them. Please weigh your pros and cons of each.
How’d you come about discovery of your writing talent, gift or ability?
I began writing as early as elementary school. I have always loved to write. I have found that you could be so creative with words alone and make it have the ability to paint a vivid picture. I’ve always had a great imagination. Through journaling, writing has also been beneficial to me. Writing is a great form of self expression. In the seventh grade, the class was given an assignment to create a story and make it into a book. I can remember the name of my story. It was called The Attack of the Feet Monster. Long story short, I received the best grade in the class. I could actually hear my teacher snickering while reading and grading my story. She summoned me to read it in front of the entire class. The entire class laughed to tears. That is when I realized that I had a knack for writing.
What are your future writing endeavors? What’s next on your authorship agenda?
My future writing endeavors consist of completing the Living Proof series, writing another poetry book, and reciting some of my poetry on virtual poetry nights of course, I have to play it safe during this pandemic. I’m also currently participating in two poetry anthologies, Soul-Full: A Poetry Anthology Metamorphosis and Words Speak-Hurt No More, both due to be released August-October 2021.
Indie/Self-Published Author and/or Traditionally Published? What do you favor more and why?
I am a self-published author. I’ve had an experience with a traditional publisher, which cost more money and they do the bare minimum to promote your work. There were times where I had to correct my agent; finding errors that she was paid to find. In other words, I had to go back and proofread my own work; not to say that I would never use a traditional publisher again. I’m still learning the ins and outs of self-publishing, but I’m much happier.
What’s the greatest compliment that you ever received regarding your literary accomplishments and what did this remark do for you, how did it transform your life or your writing?
The greatest compliment that I’ve received came from a small fan base that has purchased every one of my books. They tell me that they love my books and encourage me to continue writing. I also love when readers that I have never even met read my works and leave positive reviews. I’ve been speechless and even brought to tears. This has definitely made me more confident in writing. I realize that I’m not writing for me, but for my readers.
If you could ask a question of your favorite author of all time, what would the question be? How would you answer that question -yourself?
If I could ask Carl Weber, a favorite author of mine, a question it would be, “In what ways do you ensure the longevity of your writing career?” I would answer that question, “It takes thinking outside of the box as far as being creative and collaborating with other authors possibly while ensuring that you continue to write for your readers seasoned and new.” I would then tell myself, easier said than done. LOL ☺
