What sets your book apart from all others?
My book sets itself apart from others. The level of diversity. The diverse character development. It’s unique because the MC is a POC leading a genre that traditionally forgets us. You can expect a good read that takes you on a really good adventure. We learn about pushing through bullying, teenage crushes, individuality, family bonds, and strained relationships with your parents. You’ll enjoy this brand new world filled with new and interesting one of a kind creations – beings, beasts, plants, etc.
Who is your target market, who should be reading your books?
Kids and fantasy loving adults will enjoy this series. The little boy or girl who doesn’t know how to express their self or the fantasy fan who wants to see something different. Teachers looking to introduce kids to a new era of fantasy reads.
What authors inspired you most and how so?
Stephen King was my earliest inspiration. He had a way of taking a story that you didn’t really get and then have your jaw on the floor at the end with a surprise you were not expecting. Agatha Christie taught me how to keep the mystery going.
What advice do you have to offer in support of other authors?
Keep writing. Even if you don’t think it’ll be good enough, keep writing – it is. Stay true to what you want to write. I almost went in a different direction with my character and I’m so proud of myself for doing what I wanted to do.
What is your genre of choice and why?
I like to call my genre, Superhero Fantasy-Fiction. The why is explained simply as… I love ALL 3. Superhero, Fantasy, and Fiction. They each were my life growing up.
How’d you come about discovery of your writing talent, gift or ability?
Mrs. McGinley’s 7th grade English Literature class. A short story project we had to work on. I aced it. …LOL…
What are your future writing endeavors? What’s next on your authorship agenda?
My fav would be the Nathaniel Hex books and meeting all the artists I get to work with to bring him to life. Next is the Nathaniel Hex graphic novels. (Stay tuned!)
Is writing for you synonymous with living and breathing, or just something you do as a hobby, and how so and why?
Well someone once said to me, “It’s only a hobby until you’re making money from it.” Let’s just say, I’m Living, Breathing, & Eating. 😁
What do you feel we need to hear or read more of, that is rare today in a book?
More fantasy series with young black leads. It’ll give them a different narrative in life to follow as well as show POC in a light brighter than the one we always get shoned on us.

How is your writing controversial, profound or mind boggling, or how would you describe it?
I dont think it [my writing] is any of those things, per se. I think it’s happy, sad at times, sometimes scary, a lot of fun but mostly… exciting.
What do you hope to accomplish with your literary creation? What change or enlightenment do you want to bring about in your reader if any?
I want to show a young black character leading an incredible fantasy story made up of an incredible level of diversity throughout the entire 7 book series [expected].
What’s the greatest compliment that you ever received regarding your literary accomplishments and what did this remark do for you, how did it transform your life or your writing?
A traditional publishing house rejected my book because they could not figure out which age group or audience I was writing for. After reading the letter I was like, “So I did what I was going for.” …LOL…
What’s the most memorable criticism you received regarding your literary works and how did this remark transform you as a writer or influence your writing if at all?
The publishing house that rejected my manuscript gave my world building ability and character development an amazing review. I still wrote the same. 😜
If you could ask a question of your favorite author of all time, what would the question be? How would you answer that question -yourself?
Will you please read, review, and promote my books? My answer would be, Yes.
What have you sacrificed, if anything, to be a writer, or to write as you do? What have you gained from writing, how has it rewarded you personally?
I’m not going to claim I’ve had to make these great sacrifices. As a black writer creating an epic fantasy, I only fear it will not get the reception it can or that my efforts deserve, equally. My personal reward is another thing. I’m proud of myself. Because even knowing this genre lacks diversity, I stayed the course. 💥BOOM💥 Mic-Drop
