What sets your books apart from all others?

What makes my books different from others, is that I have published them in adult and YA editions. I wanted to help and enable parents to keep reading with their kids into their teen years. Being able to read the same story in a safe way, enables parents and teens to communicate and have discussions about, not only my books but also the varied subject matter, such as environmental issues and life on other planets. I also wanted to give adults the choice of a story with adult scenes and language or without, as many adults enjoy YA books for that reason. My books also connect the dots between ancient aliens and our ancient ancestors in a speculative way. The Earth’s Angels trilogy will make you think what if? What if we keep abusing our planet? What if aliens visited Earth? What if our ancient ancestors were in contact with aliens?

Who is your target market, who should be reading your books?

My books are for adults and teens, as well as giving adults the choice of a clean edition. They are for anyone who loves science fiction and fantasy. My Earth’s Angels trilogy begins as a post-apocalyptic, first contact story, evolving to an apocalyptic, alien invasion tale, full of action, adventure, love, drama, and huge battles. Did I mention it also includes dragons? lol

What authors inspired you most and how so?

The two authors who have inspired me the most are Trudi Canavan and Cassandra Clare. Their books are amazing and their world-building skills are incredible. Both equally blow me away by their imagination and storytelling.

What advice do you have to offer in support of other authors?

Learn as much as you can, for your writing craft as well as promotion and marketing. Also, it is never too early to start building your following and reader base. Taking yourself and your brand seriously, whether indie or self-published is very important.

What is your genre of choice and why?

My genre chose me I think. My first novel, Earth’s Angels, started as a weird dream that wouldn’t leave my thoughts. As my story formed I realized that it was a science fiction and fantasy tale. I knew then that it should be a post-apocalyptic, first-contact novel, but I wasn’t expecting it to turn into an apocalyptic story in book two.

How’d you come about discovering your writing talent, gift, or ability?

I was always good at writing poetry as a child which developed into songwriting as an adult. I never planned on writing books, but now it feels like a natural progression. When I began writing my first novel my sisters and mum really encouraged me to continue and publish.

What are your future writing endeavors?  What’s next on your authorship agenda?

I’m super excited right now as I’m just finishing the last book in a fantasy series for younger children around the 7-11-year-old age group. My new series is about a magical Christmas spirit called Jinx, who has many magical adventures in the North Pole and the human realm. I’m hoping to have the series published by October this year in time for Christmas. I also plan to write an adult comedy novel once my fantasy series has been released.

Is writing for you synonymous with living and breathing, or just something you do as a hobby, and how so and why?

Writing has always been a strong passion, whether it’s poetry, songs, or novels. I can’t imagine ever stopping. It’s so therapeutic and a wonderful way of being creative. I love the fact that we can write anywhere, especially now we can use our phones, iPads, and computers.

What do you feel we need to hear or read more of, that is rare today in a book?

I think we need more books that make you think “What If?” What if the world were a better place, or different? What if we stopped judging and were more accepting?

What changes in the literary world would you most like to see?

I would like to see indie authors being taken more seriously, especially by book buyers. Some of the best books I’ve read were by indie authors and there is so much talent out there.

Indie/Self-Published Author and/or Traditionally Published?  What do you favor more and why?

Both indie and self-publishing have huge benefits. However, it is so tough to get a publishing contract with a reputable publishing house. If you publish with a small press you still have to do a lot of work to promote yourself and with many small press companies who aren’t as professional, it can be risky. The good news, is that self-publishing now is easier than ever. The information and tools are readily available to be successful and have a career if you are willing to put the work in. I love being an indie author as I have full control of everything and a wonderful connection with my readers. They are a huge part of my writing journey.

How is your writing controversial, profound, or mind-boggling, or how would you describe it?

My Earth’s Angels trilogy begins as the earth is dying from our abuse, with superstorms, pandemics, and our oceans dying, which has made many of my readers think, “What if we continue abusing our planet”. I also connect the dots between our ancient civilizations and ancient aliens, who may have visited Earth since the start of mankind. I have received so many messages and comments from readers who love the ancient alien’s theory.

What do you hope to accomplish with your literary creation?  What change or enlightenment do you want to bring about in your reader if any?

I hope my readers feel the need to be kinder to our planet, to the point that they want to make changes. I have even listed ways to #BeAnEarthAngel in the back of my first novel, with helpful and useful tips and links, which my readers love.

What’s the greatest compliment that you ever received regarding your literary accomplishments and what did this remark do for you, how did it transform your life or your writing?

Two compliments had made a huge difference to me. One compliment was from a reader who has Dyslexia, she told me my book was the first novel she was able to read and enjoy. I was thrilled! The second was from a man who loved to travel the world visiting ancient ruins. He had actually visited the Gate of the Gods in Peru which is a key ruin in my trilogy and it blew his mind how my characters magically reactivated it as a Star passage. Both of them want to see my books become movies apparently, which is a massive compliment.

What’s the most memorable criticism you received regarding your literary works and how did this remark transform you as a writer or influence your writing if at all?

I received a review that mentioned my grammar, but by book two the reader found out that I was English and it wasn’t a grammar issue but English terminology. I realized that because I am now based in America and my majority of readers are American, I would have to change certain words to suit my main readership. It’s not something you think about as a new author, but I’m more mindful now and have made the changes.

If you could ask a question of your favorite author of all time, what would the question be?  How would you answer that question -yourself?

That is a tough question because I am always teaching myself new things and as my favorite author, Trudi Canavan, is traditionally published, we have very different experiences. I am always learning and trying to keep up with things that affect writers and the publishing world. I am always trying to help other authors too.

What have you sacrificed, if anything, to be a writer, or to write as you do?  What have you gained from writing, how has it rewarded you personally?

I have put blood, sweat, and tears into making my novels a reality. I have saved every penny to create, publish, promote and market my books, doing most of the process myself, which has meant so many late nights. However, it has been worth it. Every time I receive a review of my books or

or receive a message or comment, it makes it all worth the effort. I am also the founder and host of an online show called The Witty Writers Show, where I interview authors of all genres and experience levels for free, to help give them more exposure. It’s a live show from my Facebook author page and I’m thrilled to share that my author interview events have reached over 40,000 people over the last ninety days, on Facebook alone. The publishing business is tough and I hope I’m helping other authors to get noticed.
